How Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA) Can Help You Find Relief from Chronic Neck and Low Back Pain
Here at The Spine & Sports Health Center, we seek to maximize the recovery of patients by using today’s most advanced, non-surgical procedures. In fact, we bring the latest innovative treatment solutions to our patients looking for not only relief, but a return to an active lifestyle!
One procedure that has been shown to provide many of our patients with relief from chronic neck and low back pain is Radiofrequency ablation (RFA).
What is Radiofrequency ablation?
Radiofrequency ablation is a procedure that has proven itself to be both a safe and effective way to treat pain. The procedure utilizes an electrical current produced by radio waves to heat up a small area of nerve tissue on the spine. Once the targeted nerve is heated, its ability to send pain signals to the brain is disrupted. Those who opt for RFA should also expect a local anesthetic and a sedative to be administered during the procedure to help them relax throughout the procedure.
What should you expect to do before your RFA procedure?
Our doctors will provide you with individual instructions on how you should prepare. However, you should plan on not drinking or eating anything the night before. If you take any medications, your doctor will also instruct you on whether or not you should take them.
How long does the procedure last, and how soon will you feel the effects of the procedure?
RFA takes under an hour to complete, requires no incisions or hardware, and a patient will be able to leave about thirty minutes after the procedure. Most patients will also start to find pain relief a couple of weeks after the procedure, with the most dramatic amount of pain relief 1-2 months after.
How long do the effects last?
The results typically last anywhere from 6-12 months, and in some instances, years. Whatever the case, if you are trying to find a safe and effective procedure that has been proven to help individuals lead a pain-free life for an extended period of time, you should consider Radiofrequency ablation.
Over the past several years, we have successfully helped hundreds of patients find relief from chronic neck and low back pain with RFA.
